Interior Painting Techniques

Slow and Steady

The amount of time that you allow the paint to dry is VERY important to leaving your wall perfectly painted. What's that old saying? "Slow and Steady wins the race". Wondering how to paint without brush marks? Usually allowing the paint to dry completely and allowing for the paint to flow out completely before it's dried is crucial. Our residential painters not only have the high quality painting techniques, but we also use quality materials. One important step to avoiding those annoying dried out brush strokes is to use slow-drying paint. This kind of paint is a higher quality than normal paint and takes up to 24 hours to dry. You specifically want to avoid paint that says "dry to the touch" or "quick dry". Another thing to consider is the environment around where you are painting. Although this is slow-drying paint, you want to avoid any potential bumps or damages that might occur while the paint is drying.

Brush/Paint Horizontally

Next tip to avoid the dried out brush marks is to make sure that you paint on a horizontal surface whenever you can. You should always remove anything that can be removed, such as doors or cabinets. To allow for paint to flow uniformly while drying, you can lay the doors or cabinets horizontally while painting. The main reason you want to paint horizontally is due to the fact that when a door or cabinet is placed on a flat surface, gravity allows for the paint to disperse in ALL directions. If you were to paint vertically, gravity will create paint drip marks, due to the fact that gravity is pulling the paint downwards.

Multiple Coats

Applying multiple coats is a key tip to avoid paint brush marks. It is recommended that you apply at least 2 coats of paint to the surface you are painting. Make sure you cover the area evenly with a good thick amount of paint. Then you want to make sure that the paint is dry before coming back for the second coat.

Use Quality Paint Brushes

When coming up with interior home painting ideas, another thing to consider is the tools you will use. The quality of your paintbrush plays a huge role in the finished product. Although this might increase the cost of your painting project, it is well worth the investment. Certain paintbrushes have hairs of different lengths, this allows for the paint to clump up providing you with smoother application with your paint brush strokes. If you do somehow end up with an uneven surface after the paint has dried, you can use sandpaper and a wet cloth to go over those areas.
